Japanese Used Cars Grading System

Japanese used cars are becoming more famous day by day and everyone wants to have one in their garage. The main concern of the importer of the car is about the car condition. For Japanese reconditioned cars a grading system has been developed which gives all the required information about the car condition you are going to buy. The grades are assigned to any used car under strict Japanese standards. Therefore the person who is importing or buying a car from Japan can trust these grades and don’t worry about the car condition.

Whether you are buying Japanese used car from Auto Auction or directly from the dealer, in both cases you can have the inspection sheet of the car on which you can see all the grades about the car. Following are the grades and the details of these grades which are assigned to any car:

Rust and Panel Grading:

  • X: The Panel of the car needs to be replaced by a new one.
  • XX: Panel is not genuine.
  • S1: Negligible Rusty i-e can be ignored
  • S2: A little bit more rusty than S1 and recommended to get it repaired after sometime.
  • S3: Very rusty and must be repaired.

Grades for the Interior:

  • A: Interior is just like a new car.
  • B: Good Condition with a clean interior.
  • C: Interior is average having some repairs.
  • D: Interior is below average, with dirt and strains which are impossible to clean.
  • E: Very Bad condition, Dashboard cracked, very dirty.

Grading Of The Whole Japanese Used Vehicles:

  • R: Car is Accidental and has been repaired.
  • RA: Badly accidental and repaired.
  • R1: More badly accidental than RA and has been repaired.
  • RA1: Heavily damaged, non-drivable, only to be used for spare parts.
  • 1: Car is modified/Affected
  • 2: Unsatisfactory Condition.
  • 3: Partially damages but repairable.
  • 3.5: Good condition with few repairs recommended.
  • 4: Very Good condition with minor repairs recommended.
  • 4.5: Excellent Condition with no repair work.
  • 5: Car is less driven hence in excellent condition.
  • S: Same as a new car.

Used Japanese Car Body Grading:

  • U1: Minor Dents.
  • U2: Very small dents and can be repaired.
  • U3: Large dents must be repaired.
  • C: Corrosion.
  • G: Stone chip.
  • B: Dents which must be repaired.
  • P: Re-paint recommended.
  • BP: both repair and paint must.
  • Y1: Minor cracks.
  • Y2: Huge cracks.
  • A1: Minor scratched or no scratches.
  • A2: Few scratches to medium scratches.
  • A3: Huge Scratches.
  • W1: Minor waves.
  • W2: Small waves.
  • W3: Large Waves.

So, before taking part in Japan Auto Auction or buying Japanese used cars for sale you must have an overview of this grading system so that you can know about the car condition you are buying.
